Non-insured assistance program reminders and deadlines
LEXINGTON - The Farm Service Agency's Non-insured Assistance Program can soften financial losses caused by natural disaster, but only if you've applied for coverage and paid the application fee. NAP coverage is similar to Catastrophic Risk Protection insurance and is available for commercial crops or agricultural commodities produced for food or fiber for which CAT is not available. NAP coverage is not available for livestock.
A NAP enrollment fee is required at the time of sign-up: $100 fee per crop not to exceed $300 per county (or a maximum fee of $900 per producer for multi-county operations).
The 2008 NAP application deadlines are as follows:
¦ Nov. 20 - Apples, blueberries, grapes, peaches, pears
¦ Dec. 1 - Honey, maple sap
¦ Feb. 15 - Alfalfa (forage, grazed), corn (forage, sweet), grass (forage/grazed), mixed grass (forage/ grazed), spring oats (forage, grain, grazed), forage sorghum, forage soybeans
