DOE HILL - Highland County 4-H held its annual achievement night Nov. 9 at Doe Hill United Methodist Church to recognize members and volunteers for their achievements during the past year. The Busy Bee 4-H Club hosted the program. Kari Obaugh, president of the Highland County 4-H Council, and Roy Malcolm, president of Busy Bee 4-H Club, served as masters of ceremonies.

Tabitha Hiner and Samantha Blagg opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge. Kate Obaugh, secretary of the 4-H council, called roll to recognize the clubs in attendance. David Leech, council recreation leader, led the audience in a short game.

Guest speaker C.J. Sweat, the northwest district ambassador to the state 4-H Cabinet, identified a number of opportunities for members at the state and national level. Sweat highly recommended the national 4-H conference and the national 4-H congress for senior members who might qualify. Sweat, who attended both, said they were exciting capstone events that would be the highlight of a member's 4-H experience. He also encouraged both members and adults to consider participation in state 4-H congress and junior 4-H camp.

The audience enjoyed a musical interlude which was a country music composition performed on violin by Amanda Blagg of Busy Bee 4-H Club. Lori Beverage of K9 4-H Club provided a presentation on her international service experience in the Dominican Republic. Beverage noted the work her group did with young Dominican 4-H members and the many cultural differences she observed and experienced.

Christine Hodges, 4-H extension agent for Highland County, provided a brief review of 4-H program highlights from the past year. Hodges noted the increased participation in the Highland Explorers 4-H Club, the Cloverbud 4-H Club, and Junior 4-H Camp. She also recognized member Roy Malcolm and adult volunteer Lori Botkin, who were inducted into 4-H All Stars during State 4-H Congress.

Kari Obaugh and Sam Leech, county council vice president, acknowledged the work and dedication of the program's adult volunteers and 4-H parents. Volunteers from each club were recognized. David and Dorothy Lightner received the Friend of 4-H Award for their work with the Livestock 4-H Club and many years of volunteer service in support of the 4-H livestock and horse shows. Four volunteers received special recognition for their years of service. Marty Leech, organizational leader for the Highland Explorers 4-H Club, received her 10-year service certificate and pin. Kathy Beverage, leader of the K9 4-H Club,
