VFW gathers Christmas cards for the troops

STAUNTON - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 has taken on a special mission for this holiday season.

According to Ralph Moran, the post has been working with three Bath County churches to supply phone cards tucked inside Christmas cards for overseas soldiers.

The three churches are Westminister Presbyterian Chapel, and the Williamsville and Windy Cove Presbyterian churches; Deerfield Baptist Church in Augusta County also participate.

"We send the phone cards to the churches, who supply the cards and send them back to the post," Moran explained. "We mail them to chaplains based overseas, to hand out to the troops, especially those stationed in Iraq and Afganistan."

Moran could not recall how many years Post 360 has been sending the phone cards, but said the number of cards sent were in excess of 5,000 and at least at a $10 value minimum."

To participate in the program, contact one of the churches.
