DAR Chapter celebrates 30th
STAUTON - The Sarah Murray Lewis Chapter NSDAR met on Nov. 10 at St. Johns United Methodist Church, in Staunton for its 30th anniversary as a chapter.
There were with 29 members and three guests - Karen Ketchum, Carol Holbert and Diana Davide.
The chapter has 59 active members.
The Regent Sarah Wolters thanked hostesses, Mrs. Robert C. Maxwell, Mrs. John H. Murray, Mrs. William S. Smith, Mrs. William H. Toman and Mrs. Orville Wolters.
Wolters spoke on Virginia DAR yearbook and proceedings of 111th State Conference.
Mary Ultee spoke on National Defense Message titled, "AWOL Unexcused Absent Of Middle Class In The Military."
Nominations for delegates for State Conference at the Roanoke Hotel are Wolters, Nancy May and Connie Metheny. Alternates will be Lita Wimer Betty Van Fossen and Carolyn Smith.
Delegates for Continental Congress are Frances Buchanan, Connie Methany, and Sarah Wolters. First alternates are Carol Murray, Beckie Sherwood and Barbara Atkins. Second alternates are Carolyn Smith, Leta Wimer and Betty Van Fossen.
Allie Maxwell spoke on the history of the chapter starting with the date of Nov. 6, 1977 at Fairview Community Center in Bath County. It began with nine ancestors and today has 33 ancestors from five different states.
