Highlanders do book on holiday tree

MONTEREY - Three years ago a beautiful red spruce evergreen left the mountains of Highland County and stood on the West Lawn of our nation's capitol. A new children's book, "A Treemendous Honor," tells about this memorable event. Written and il- lustrated by two highland County natives, this book will be ready for purchase Dec. 1.

Capitola "Cappie" Hull is the local author who tells of this special tree "hidden on a mountainside from mankind." She wrote about a tree with a purpose in life it never imagined.

Robert "Bobby" Vandevender illustrated the book. Vandevender is a self-taught artist who used acrylics on canvas. As a result of multiple sclerosis and being confined to a nursing home, he used his imagination to illustrate this event.

"A Tree-mendous Honor" is a heartwarming tale of a national event that happens each year at Christmas. The story is a reminder of Highland County's contribution to the nation, once upon a Christmas.

To purchase a copy, contact Cappie Hull by calling (540) 468-2408 or stop by Mill Alley Framing on Main Street in Monterey.
