Library Notes Christmas books in stock By Tomi Herold Highland County Public Library
MONTEREY - The holiday season is upon us and it's been great to see so many of you coming in and stocking up on books and movies to share with your families. We have lots of Christmas books to help you get into the spirit of the season, and Chanukah books as well. We'll be collecting those books in a special section to make them easy for you to find.
¦ We're excited to be a part of the upcoming book signing and reading by Donald McCaig. He'll be reading from his new book, "Rhett Butler's People," and, yes, it's that Rhett Butler. McCaig was chosen by the estate of "Gone With the Wind" author Margaret Mitchell to write the story of Rhett Butler. His new novel is generating intense interest and rave reviews. McCaig will read from the book and sign copies at the library at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. The proceeds from the sale of books at the event will benefit the Highland SPCA. Refreshments will be provided; everyone is welcome.
¦ The following week, on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., local author Will Vaus will be reading excerpts and signing copies of his new biography of his father, "My Father Was a Gangster, the Jim Vaus Story." He tells the story of how his father left behind a life of crime for a life of faith and came to found Youth Development, Inc. in Highland County. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome.
¦ Be sure and come by the library during the holidays and bring your kids. Every child who checks out a book will get a treat at the front desk. Also be sure to have a look at our selection of holiday music. We've just added more than a dozen new CDs to our holiday music collection.
¦ With the holiday gift-giving season comes the release of highly anticipated new books. We have Donald McCaig's "Rhett Butler's People," Jan Karon's "Home to Holly Springs," James Patterson's "Double Cross," Dick Francis's "Dead Heat," Danielle Steel's "Amazing Grace," Richard North Patterson's "The Race," Barbara Taylor Bradford's "The Heir," Margaret Truman's "Murder on K Street," Greg Iles', "Third Degree," David Baldacci's "Stone Cold," and Clive Cussler's "The Chase."
¦ In nonfiction we have Terri Irwin's "Steve and Me," Tom Brokaw's "Boom! Voices of the Sixties," and Will Vaus's "My Father Was a Gangster, the Jim Vaus Story."
