Gift of life - Participating at the Millboro Ruritan Club blood drive last Thursday, Dec. 13, are Betty Loam, right, and Kathy Forbes, center, both of Millboro. Loam said she had donated close to three gallons of blood since the Ruritans started holding the events a number of years ago. For Forbes, it was the first time she volunteered. American Red Cross technician Tiffany Hurt from the Appalachian Region chapter monitored the volunteers. According to Ruritan Olivia Haney, 19 donors gave 17 pints of blood. The event had to close early due to plumbing problems in the building and 10 volunteer donors had to be turned away. She said, however, that Ruritan organizers were very pleased with the participation. (Recorder photo by Gina Hamilton)
