Blanchard given SCORE award

WAYNESBORO - SCORE Chapter 427 awarded David Blanchard of Monterey its 2007 Small Business of the Year Award Dec. 6 at its annual meeting. This is the second time an award has been presented to a Highland business that uses SCORE/Small Business Development Center services.ºBlue Roof Caterers received the award in 2004. º

SCORE is a non-profit organization that provides free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs. It is associated with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBDC provides management assistance to current and prospective small business owners.

Blanchard is a woodworker specializing in restoration, conservation, and custom-made fine furniture. He teaches at Pocahontas Woods, a West Virginia organization dedicated to developing high-end furniture. He is working with Bo Aldredge and Gary Johnson of Highland to form the Allegheny Highlands Woodworkers Guild. Blanchard has restored several pieces of antique furniture for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Blanchard grew up in Richmond and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in fine art. He is married and has two daughters. Blanchard has lived in Highland County for 16 years.

He was elected to the Highland County Board of Supervisors in November.
