Highland Center gets foundation grant
MONTEREY - The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge has announced a $500 grant award to The Highland Center for enhancing the center's capacity to serve the community. The center participated in a regional assessment of non-profit organizational needs, and won a grant to be used toward the needs identified. The results of the assessment will be used to plan the foundation's work in supporting and strengthening non-profit organizations in the region.
The grant is the first awarded by the foundation in Highland County. Grants are made possible through lifetime funds or bequests by individuals who have a charitable interest in supporting the community or a special cause they care about. Most of the Community Foundation's funds have been established by individuals in the Augusta, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Nelson County areas with grants to be awarded in those areas.
Sandi Scannelli, foundation president, said, "The Community Foundation, its charitable giving tools and the tax benefits it offers to individuals may not be wellknown in Highland County. We hope increased awareness of the foundation in Highland County over the next year to reach individuals who wish to establish a permanent legacy fund dedicated to helping the services and work of the non-profit organizations serving Highland County."
The foundation is a non-profit organization focused on assisting individuals and organizations in establishing permanent endowments for philanthropic goals in support of any donor cause or interest including the arts, health care, human services, recreation, historic preservation, housing, and education.
