Millboro Happenings By Gina Hamilton
¦ The Millboro Volunteer Fire Association invites everyone to join them this Saturday, Dec. 22, for the 2007 Christmas Parade. Lineup will be at 1 p.m. and the parade will start at 2 p.m. at Millboro Elementary School on Church Street. All entries are welcome and trophies will be awarded to the best of the best in a variety of categories. Santa will be the special guest, riding on top of one of the fire trucks. After the parade, he will be upstairs at the fire department to talk and take pictures with children.ºHe also has goodies for the good girls and boys. Come join a merry Christmas celebration and receive a free Polaroid picture of your child with Santa.
¦ The holiday music program at the elementary school, which was planned last Monday, Dec. 17, was held yesterday afternoon, Dec. 19, because schools were closed on Monday due to ice and snow on roads.
¦ Many residents have asked about the renovations new owners have made at the "yellow house" on Lower Yard Road this year, often recalling friends or relatives who used to live there. To keep the memories alive about this period home, the Hamilton family invites residents to stop by during an open house on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 2-5 p.m., to see the work that has been done so far and share information about the property. The support and encouragement we received during the restoration process were most appreciated.

Black; adult assistant Betty Cduin; Sara Crummett, Skye Dujardin, Sarah Church, Cheyenne Slawson, and K-4 teacher's aide Brenda Altizer. Other students who participated were Elizabeth Hostetter and Evan Wooding. Last week, the group was completing holiday decorations and preparing baskets of goodies for patients who will spend Christmas at Bath County Community Hospital in Hot Springs and Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low, and Christmas toys for children that will be delivered to the University of Virginia. Other baskets with personal care items will go those who are homebound and to residents at the Wellman House in Millboro. According to Altizer, it's been a school-wide effort with all MES students donating craft items, and teachers and the Dollar Tree in Covington helping with supplies. The project also had the support of parents. |
| ¦ The Recorder offices in Mitchelltown and Monterey will be closed all of next week for the holidays and the newspaper will not be produced that week. The offices will reopen on Monday, Dec. 31, with the next issue published Jan. 3. We wish you love, joy and peace during this most special holiday time, and a New Year filled with the promise of good things to come.
