      The Highland County pool project has broken ground. Last week, National Pools of Roanoke began the project and is making quick headway. Quick enough that folks can swim there this summer? Wait and see. There has been ample speculation of the situation. While we wait, let's discuss some facts about the future Highland pool.

      BLACKSBURG - The Virginia FFA Association celebrated its 82nd State FFA Convention on June 16-19, 2008 at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Sports action this weekend . . .
      July 5 - Saturday a four-on-four flag football tournament at Carl F. Williams Field in Warm Springs begins at 4 p.m. The format is "aerial assault" (passing-only). There will be different divisions for men's, women's and youth under-13.

Eurotech soccer camp to Bath County
      HOT SPRINGS - Soccer camp will once again bring a Eurotech soccer camp to Bath County. This is a fun-filled week of soccer for children aged 6-18. International coaches work with children to improve their individual skills and team play. The enthusiasm and knowledge of the young men who coach make learning soccer skills fun even for those who have never played before.

Renegades place 3rd
      Bath JV softball players Amanda Shifflett and Jailyn Ford, as members of the Virginia Renegades 14 and under travel team from Roanoke, played in the Pennsylvania College Showcase tournament in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania last week.

Free fall sports physicals
      Students at Bath and Highland County schools interested in participating in fall sports need medical physicals completed prior to the start of fall practices in Aug. The Highland Medical Center offers the examination service free of charge on July 30th. Call 468-3300 to set up an appointment.
