'Walk a Mile in Their Shoes' event planned

COVINGTON — One in three women and one in 14 men will be a victim of sexual abuse or assault. One in four women and one in seven men will be a victim of domestic violence at some point in their life.

Safehome Systems Inc., the local domestic violence, sexual assault program that has served the Allegheny Highlands and surrounding communities for 20 years, is sponsoring its third an- nual "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" event.

The walk is held to remember and honor those who have been victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This year's event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 1-3 p.m. at the Jackson River Sports Complex. There will be free sports bottles to the first 200 participants, free food, kids' games and prizes, free Halloween goody bags for the first 150 children and much more. Entertainment will be provided by local gospel group, The Announcers. There will also be a one-mile walk in honor and remembrance of those who have been abused.
