Mounties win in final seconds
      WARM SPRINGS — The phrase 'football is a game of inches' was never more true than Friday night as the Bath County Chargers were inches away from two touchdowns and Alleghany's freshman kicker Seth Bradley kicked a 22-yard field goal that barely cleared the crossbar with two seconds left to give the Mounties a 10-7 win on a cool evening perfect for football at Carl F.

Chargers roll Rams to open district
      MONTEREY — The Bath County lady Charger volleyball squad travelled up the road to Monterey to take on the Rams and left with their most lopsided victory of the season, 25-5, 25-14, and 25-8, Tuesday night. The high-flying and hard-hitting Chargers took control of the match from the second whistle.

      BUENA VISTA — Highland's Shane Wiseman finished first overall followed in second by Ram Josh Whitaker and teammate Hayley Billingsley finished second in the girls' run to lead the Rams to a sweep in a four-team district meet last Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Highland golf prepares for districts Monday
      Highland and Covington at James River BOTETOURT COUNTRY CLUB — Host team James River took all the top four places on the card and dominated visiting Covington and Highland in golf action Thursday, Sept. 11. River's team score of 164 was nearly 60 shots better than second place Highland's score of 220. The Rams edged the Cougars by six strokes.

      SWOOPE — Having lost only one set (against Alleghany in August) this year the Bath County Chargers kept up the heat and defeated the Bison of Buffalo Gap 25-18, 25-13, and 25-8 in non-district action last Thursday evening.

Warrior comeback captures Rams
      DUNMORE, W.Va.— Following the trend of their previous pre-district action the Highland Rams took the Pocahontas Warriors to the ropes but lost the tiebreaking set in both games of a double header, 15-25, 29-27,16-14, and 19-25, 25-15, 15-10, last Thursday afternoon.

Commission member walks out on meeting
      MONTEREY — The search for a new recreation director is over for the Highland County Recreation Commission. During Monday night's meeting the commission agreed to submit the individual's name to the Board of Supervisors at the next board meeting.

On Campus
      Four former Bath County High School athletes are playing college football on three campuses across Virginia. In Williamsburg, Jake Phillips, Cory Jessee and William & Mary rolled past Norfolk State 42-12 in a non-conference game last week. Jake, the Tribe's senior quarterback, was 14-of-26 passing for 204 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in the contest.

JV Chargers lose opener
      LOW MOOR — JV Charger quarterback Raymond Miller scored on a keeper and Xavier Smothers caught the two-point conversion to pull the Chargers within six-points of the homestanding Mounties 14-8, but Alleghany owned the rest of the game and took a dominating 52-8 win last Thursday evening.

Punt-pass-kick contest Friday at BCHS
      The Bath County High School Athletic Booster Club will hold a NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick contest for area boys and girls ages 8-15 this Friday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Carl F. Williams Field. Winners of each age group in each skill will advance to the next level of competition with the National winners going to the Super Bowl in January.
