Contest. Area school students, 4-H club
members, church groups and scouts are
invited to compete in making ornaments out
of natural or recycled materials. Ornaments
are judged, and prizes are awarded in various
categories. Schools may also contact the ark
for a reduce, reuse, recycle outreach program
for their students to go along with contest

¦ The Highland Center will host Virginia
Department of Business Assistance, to learn
about the Commonwealth's latest mandates
for spending; helpful eVA (electronic Virginia,
the state's electronic procurement system)
tips to increase your chances of selling to the
Commonwealth; and understand the SWAM
(small, women and minority) certification
process, at 11 a.m. Lunch will be followed by
a group question and answer session. There
is no fee. For one-on-one assistance, you must
preregister by calling (540) 468-1922.
¦ Afterschool crafts program at the Highland
County Public Library from 4-5 p.m. Tate
Swecker of Mariah Boone Jewelry will help
children create a beaded bracelet to keep or

give as a present.

¦ The Highland Center will host a contest for area
culinary artists to decide who has the best recipe for
lamb stew. The competition will take place Saturday,
Dec. 6 at the center's Holiday Treasures Market, held
in conjunction with the Highland County Wintertide
Festival. The deadline to sign up to participate is Nov.
