In Brief . . .
Monterey Town Council
¦ Jan. 3 Monterey mayor Janice Warner told town council Joe Winfield of the Department of Environmental Quality told her there was a fivemonth backlog of other cases to go through before DEQ could look at Monterey's plans for a new sewer plant. "If we are lucky, we will have it approved in four months," said Warner. ¦ Council decided not to participate in VDOT revenue sharing this year. The town has $18,000 in the fund, which is typically used for projects like sidewalk improvements. "I don't know that we want to put anymore money in it," said Warner. Town attorney Melissa Dowd agreed. "Unless you have a hot project, a specific project in mind, it doesn't make much sense (to put money into revenue sharing.) It may be you want to conserve your dollars." ¦ The next meeting of town council is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Highland County Public Library.
