Halterman receives award

| TROUTVILLE - On Jan. 5, Troutville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department held its annual awards banquet at Natural Bridge Hotel and Conference Center. During the banquet, Amy Halterman was recognized by the rescue squad as member of the year. This annual award is given for outstanding leadership, community involvement and participation within the department.
Halterman was also recognized the Troutville volunteer fire department as the rescue member of the year, an award given to someone who is not a joint member of both the fire and rescue department. This award is given for outstanding contributions to the fire department and for support of its members and activities.
At the conclusion of the banquet, Halterman was installed as first lieutenant of the Troutville Volunteer Rescue Squad. She will be in charge of training, recruitment and retention, and will be first in command in the absence of the captain.
Halterman lives in Troutville and works full-time as a registered nurse in the emergency department. She was recently promoted to clinical team leader, which places her in the role of charge nurse for the department and supervising here fellow co-workers.
Halterman is the daughter of Glenn and Cathy Halterman of Monterey, and a 1998 graduate of Highland High School.
