Kidney transplant fund-raiser under way

COVINGTON - A fund-raising effort is under way to assist a Covington man in need of a kidney transplant.

Gary A. Williams, 38, of Covington is scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant on Feb. 21 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Williams, a welder, is disabled. He and his wife, Tammie Fury Williams, have three children. Tammie has been tested and is a suitable donor.

Williams suffers from end stage renal disease, which is complete kidney failure. His kidneys are no longer able to function at a level necessary for day to day life.

A live auction to benefit the Gary A. Williams Medical Fund is planned for the month of February. Any business or person who would like to donate for the auction may call (540) 862- 3792.

The Gary A. Williams Medical Fund has been established at Highlands Community Bank. Donations can be deposited at bank offices in Covington or Clifton Forge or mailed to Highlands Community Bank, P.O. Box 1059, Covington, Va. 24426.
