Correction
¦ In the story last week about Bath County Sheriff Larry Norfleet, the paper incorrectly stated the sheriff's department would receive $30,000 in refunds of fuel taxes. That amount, $30,000, is the approximate annual fuel budget for the department. The amount of refund expected is $4,000.
¦ The picture of the woodpecker on the Millboro Happenings page last week was incorrectly named. It was a "pileated woodpecker" not a "downy". The downy woodpecker is a small bird only six inches long and is the smallest eastern woodpecker in the area and is "very busy this time of year at most feeders," says Odella Byrd of Millboro.
¦ It was incorrectly reported in the Dec. 20 edition of The Recorder that Caroline Botkin is the director of the Highland Athletic Boosters. She is treasurer and remains in that role.
