Highland rescue elects '08 officers

On Jan. 6, the HCVRS held its annual banquet at The Mountain Hideaway in Monterey with 31 members and guests present. Ronald Wimer (right) presented retiring member Bill Niswander with a mantel clock inscribed with appreciation for the years of service to the community, in addition to a gift certificate for dinner. Well deserved applause and an ovation was given Niswander and his wife Pat, who have supported the efforts of the rescue squad over the years.
MONTEREY - The Highland County Volunteer Rescue Squad has announced new officers for 2008. They are: president, Beth H. Armstrong of Mill Gap; vice president, John Wright of McDowell; secretary and treasurer, Kristie Moyers of Doe Hill; captain, Ronald Wimer of Monterey; quartermasters, Richard Waybright of Monterey and Gary Simmons of Doe Hill.

"I applaud the choice the squad has made," said Paul Klein of Head Waters, retiring president, who also retired from active service.

Captain's awards for various achievements were presented to Kristy Moyers, Patricia Wright, Gary Simmons, Todd Musick, Bobby Wright, Beth Armstrong and Lynette Armstrong. Absent member and past president, Paul Klein, was applauded for his service to the squad in the past year.

Family members were thanked for their support of squad members during the many hours of absence from home required in fulfilling emergency service to the community.
