Saxman announces assignments

RICHMOND - Speaker Bill Howell announced Jan. 9 that Del. Chris Saxman will serve on the following standing committees: Commerce and Labor; Counties, Cities, and Towns; Transportation; and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources.

Saxman has served on Transportation and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources since 2002. He will no longer serve on the Committee on Generals Laws.

"It is an honor to accept these assignments," Saxman said. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Commerce and Labor Committee to ensure Virginia continues to enjoy a strong, vibrant economy and remains the best state in the nation to do business."

With economic growth slowing, addressing business and labor policies will be of increased importance during the 2008 session.

In his capacity as general manager of Shenandoah Spring Water Co., the family business, Saxman is responsible for more than 50 employees. He also serves as chairman of the International Bottled Water Association. Last year, Virginia Foundation for Research and Economic Education awarded Saxman with a No. 1 ranking for his record on business issues.

Saxman will continue to chair the transportation subcommittee, which he has since 2006. He is the second most senior Republican member of the Committee on Transportation and brings the perspective of representing the Interstate 81 corridor to the committee's deliberations.

Del. Saxman also announced that his 2008 legislative questionnaire is available on his web site. The questionnaire addresses a number of issues including budget, health care, education, trans- portation, and immigration.

"My top priority is representing the people of the 20th District in accordance with their priorities and our shared principles," Saxman said. "The input I receive from citizens of my district, the Shenandoah Valley and across the state has been invaluable in the past and I anticipate it will be again this year."

Saxman's 2008 legislative questionnaire is available at www.delegatesaxman.com.
