Highland County Board of Supervisors
¦ The board of supervisors held a closed session Wednesday to hold a contract discussion and negotiation with commonwealth's attorney Melissa Dowd. Supervisors also held closed session for legal and personnel to discuss potential legal liability as a consequence of certain actions or inactions of a county employee. ¦ In open session, supervisors agreed to set a date for comprehensive plan update work sessions at next month's board meeting. ¦ County administrator Roberta Lambert said the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria surplus county vehicle was transferred to the Meals on Wheels program as previously requested and discussed. The board agreed to advertise for sale the remaining surplus vehicles: a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria and a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria. ¦ Supervisors approved the county pool contract pending legal review. The board accepted the bid Dec. 21 from National Pools for $239,500. ¦ The board of supervisors holds a joint public hearing with town council, the board of zoning appeals, and the planning commission at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Highland Modular Conference Center. The public hearing is for a variance for Butch Henderson's Spruce Street, Monterey house; a variance for a directional sign for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control store in Monterey; a conditional use permit for Steve Botkin's tire business; and amendments to the zoning ordinance which would remove slaughterhouses as a conditional use in general business districts (B-2) and add them as a conditional use in general agricultural districts (A-2) and light industrial districts (M-1). ¦ The next regular meeting of the board is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Highland Modular Conference Center.
