FAFSA workshop scheduled

MONTEREY - Highland High School is sponsoring a Financial Aid Workshop for its juniors and seniors and their parents or guardians on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in the school library. The snow date is Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Vern Fairchilds, Director of Financial Aid at Bridgewater College. Fairchilds will explain the free application for federal student aid. The FAFSA application must be completed in order for students to receive any federal financial aid, including grants, work study and loans.

He will also share information on how to lower the expected family contribution, which determines the minimal amount of college cost that equals a parent's or guardian's responsibility at any college.

Log on to www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the FAFSA online. Paper forms can be requested, though completing the form online is faster and many colleges have priority deadlines of March 1, 2008.

To secure PIN numbers for electronic signatures for the FAFSA online, students and parents may log onto www.pin.ed.gov before completing the FAFSA.
