Campground changes at Lake Moomaw

HOT SPRINGS - The Warm Springs Ranger District announces opening changes at Lake Moomaw for the 2008 season.

Opening dates and camping reservations for the north end of the lake have changed. Opening first will be campground three on Thursday, April 3. Opening on Monday, May 19 will be the beach, Campgrounds 1 and 2 and the new Sugar Ridge Campground.

The sewer system that services Sugar Ridge and Campground 1, the beach and the beach picnic shelter has failed and requires major repairs. At the beginning of the season, these areas will likely operate with no flush toilets or showers. Electricity and water hydrants will still be operational. Until the sewer system is repaired, porta-johns will be brought in and camping fees will be reduced.

All campsites at Sugar Ridge and Campground 1 will be walkin only. Reservations will resume when the toilets and showers are operational again. The repairs are estimated to be completed by mid- June. The Warm Springs Ranger District regrets this inconvenience and is working to get the sewer system repaired as soon as possible.

Reservations are currently being taken for Campgrounds 2 and 3, the McClintic Point Group Campground and the picnic shelters. Reservations can be made by calling (877) 444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov. Walk-in sites, requiring no reservation, are also available at Campgrounds 2 and 3.

For information call the district office at (540) 839-2521.
