Meet Your Neighbor
If anyone anywhere needs any information about goats, Herman Puffenbarger is the man to see! He raises a number of breeds of goats and can recite so many different ones in a matter of seconds, your head will spin! Puffenbarger has two very impressive billies, both very beautiful with long goatees and horns that say, "Be careful." He says they are pretty nice over all, but "never turn your back on them!" One swift butt from behind can cause serious harm. Puffenbarger is a private man who loves to tell jokes and is very enthusiastic about his herd. When asked what he could tell about himself that not many other people would know about, he replied, "I'm not going to tell ya that!" with a wry grin. He did say the biggest change he has seen in Highland County is the price of everything - land, taxes, gasoline. He said, "I could drive to Blue Grass and fill up two gas cans for $2.50. But that was 1950 something." Puffenbarger loves to go to the Mountain Hideaway every day for lunch, mostly just to talk to folks and see everybody.
