35 indictments from Bath grand jury BY MARGO OXENDINE • STAFF WRITER
WARM SPRINGS - Bath County's grand jury last week returned 35 indictments; many of them multiple charges against individuals.
This week, Bath Sheriff Larry Norfleet's deputies arrested four people on a total 24 counts; more arrests are slated.
Alecia C. Hise and Laura Hise, mother and daughter from the Millboro area, were arrested shortly after the grand jury met Tuesday, Jan. 22. They were each charged with breaking and entering and petty larceny at a camp in the Indian Draft area near Windy Cove. Stolen were a TV-VCR combo, a CD player and 15 CDs. The case was investigated by Deputy W.D. Sexton, who arrested the Hises.
A series of burglaries at three residences and a construction trailer on Route 42 brought 20 indictments. Two Alleghany County men, Chad Ira Montgomery Sr. and Eric Randolph Huffman, were arrested on 10 counts each of breaking and entering, burglary and grand larceny. Lt Noel T. Dunnagan investigated. Norfleet said Wednesday that "so much stuff" was stolen, it would be difficult to list, adding, "There were lots of guns and tools and things of nature stolen."
The sheriff hopes to complete arrests on the remaining 11 indictments by next week.
