FFA member spot light

Brandon James Ligthner
MONTEREY - Brandon James Lightner, 18, the son of James and Carol Lightner of Mill Gap, is a senior at Highland County High School and has been a member of the Future Farmers of America for seven years. He has been the treasurer for the past two years. Lightner was asked the following questions about his FFA experience.

Why is the chapter unique?

"Our chapter is unique in many ways. We always have loads of fun on trips. It is also special because we help the community. Another thing that makes it unique is our newest tradition of selling milkshakes."

What is your favorite FFA

activity? Why?

"I cannot choose a favorite FFA activity. I enjoy doing all FFA functions from FFA week to state and national conventions."

What have you learned

through your FFA experience?

"Throughout my FFA experience, I have learned to be kind, helpful, and especially thoughtful to our community."

What career development

events do you participate in?

"I participate in many CDEs. My favorite CDE would be livestock judging, forestry judging and cattle working."

What is your supervised

agricultural experience?

"My SAE is forest management products."

What has been the highlight

of your FFA career?

"The highlight of my FFA career would definitely be the top fruit seller for the past seven years. On average each year I sell about 50 to 75 bushels. This is a great amount for a member of our chapter to sell. Another highlight would be receiving my FFA state degree last summer."

What are your plans after

high school?

"After graduating high school this year, I plan to go straight to work. "

- Jessie Siron, reporting for

the Highland County FFA
