NORFOLK - Lauren Shumate made the dean's list at Norfolk State University, Norfolk, with a 3.5 GPA. In May, she will graduate with a degree in communications.
For the last two years Shumate has had her own sports program on Hot 91 FM, WNSB radio station, broadcast by Norfolk State University. She worked with The Eagle 97.3 FM country radio station's concert series, "Meet and Greet." She has interviewed Rocky Lynn and Reggie Steven of the Giants. At present she works as a master controller in the editing department of Old Dominion University.
Shumate has also finished two local commercials, a pilot of a new series called "Cufflinks" under Spike Lee's assistant Bear Jackson, and a music video. On Feb. 8, she will leave with a group from her school to participate in a host reality series in Orlando, Fla. This show will be taped also in March and April, and will be shown in Orlando on March 1. If successful, the show will be picked up by various cable stations.
Last week, Shumate was asked to be a part of the Miss Virginia Pageant in April. However, her dream has been to work in television as a news or sports anchor.
