| WARM SPRINGS - More arrests were made this week in connection with 35 indictments handed down by a Bath grand jury Jan. 22.
The most serious charges are against two Bath men - Elmer Mines of Warm Springs, and John Alan Mills of Millboro.
Mines, 56, is accused of aggravated sexual battery of a minor, a felony. Virginia State Police investigator Allen Brown arrested Mines on a charge of sexually abusing a female, against her will, by force, threat or intimidation. The child was 13 or 14 years old.
Brown also arrested Mills, 45. He is accused of committing felony aggravated sexual battery by sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl.
The Alleghany Highlands Drug Task Force was also busy this week. The task force is composed of members from the Bath, Alleghany and Highland sheriff's offices, the Covington and Clifton Forge police departments, and the Virginia State Police.
The task force arrested Benjamin Lee Essex, 32, of Hot Springs, on Feb. 1 in Bath County. He is accused of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and felony possession of Ecstasy and methamphetamine; the pills are classified as Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 drugs.

| Radcliffe M. King, 25, of Warm Springs, was arrested Feb. 5 on the Jan. 22 indictment, for possession of Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 drugs with intent to sell. The pills are being tested at the Western Division, Virginia Forensics Science Lab in Roanoke.
The date of the alleged offenses of both Essex and King was Sept. 14, 2007.
Mindi Shinault of Hot Springs, 27, was arrested by Bath sheriff's deputies R.W. Plecker and D.R. Shriver on three indictments. According to Bath Sheriff Larry Norfleet, the deputies were on a domestic call Dec. 28, and discovered the alleged drugs in Shinault's automobile. She is charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and two counts of possession with intent to sell Schedule 2 and Schedule 4 drugs. The pills were also sent to the Roanoke laboratory for identification.
Arrests on indictments involving other offenses are being made by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries; those details were not available by press time Wednesday.
