Flynn's photos shown at Highland County library

MONTEREY - Every once in awhile, someone can capture an idea so well that you see the world in a different way. Talking about photography with Jack Flynn presents

a series of ideas that open up places in the world in an extraordinary way. His photography show, "Places and Spaces," will be on display in the Mountain View Room of the Highland County Public Library for the month of February.

"To me, capturing a moment is capturing a lasting impression that will remind me later of how I felt when the shutter closed," said Flynn.

To help solidify the memories surrounding the moment, he applies textures, shadows and light using image-editing software. The result is a picture full of feeling and memory. When you see the photos taken in Highland and surrounding areas, you will experience more than mere recognition, perhaps a glimpse of a story of your own. Photos from Albuquerque, N.M. and Cape Hatteras, N.C. will draw your mind to other places.

Flynn's interest in photography stemmed from growing up in the D.C. Metro area.

"Many, many places I knew and loved are gone - fields, old buildings, small narrow roads .... all replaced with subdivisions, shopping centers, and superhighways," he said. "So photography is important to me to capture what I see now and cherish, for it may not look the same five or 10 years from now."

When he moved to Highland County full-time in 2000, he brought his skill in graphic arts, along with training in antiques restoration, to open his gallery and framing shop, Mill Alley Art and Frame on Main Street in Monterey.
