 | | Chef Randy hosted a day of gingerbread house and cookie decorating with local students in December. The class from TOTS Preschool visited Garth Newel to creatively practice skills learned in preschool such as patterns, shapes, counting, texture, and the art of patience. "The students' focus was incredible," said TOTS teacher Amanda McGuire. Without too many extra tastes, these three- and four-year-olds concentrated on decorating their colorful creations for more than two hours. Chef Randy demonstrated many of his techniques, including cutting cinnamon sticks for a log pile and homemade cotton candy for smoke from their chimneys. Later that day, he hosted a Christmas cookie making class for elementary students grades K-3 in his Garth Newel kitchen. All students took home their creations to share with their families. Here, TOTS Preschool student Forrest Waldeck eyes his gingerbread house with the guidance of Chef Randy. (Photo courtesy Garth Newel Music Center) |
