Chocolate festival held May 3

CLIFTON FORGE - Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 3 and start looking through your chocolate recipes. The Alleghany Highlands Arts & Crafts Center will once again host its annual fund-raiser, the Art of Chocolate Festival.

This year the festival will be held in the Moomaw Center at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Admission to the festival is free.

For a modest donation, coupon sample books will be sold, with proceeds going to support the center's activities. Mouthwatering chocolates will be traded for coupons. Area cooks and bakers will compete for prizes in a long list of categories.

Nancy Newhard-Farrar, the center's executive director, said there will be a "wild card" category, so participants with imaginations can be wildly inventive. Newhard-Farrar gave some examples of entries in the "wild card" class as chocolate sculptures or main dishes with chocolate as an ingredient.

So plan to add your favorite chocolate to the party, or, at least, join the crowd to taste what the other cooks have entered.

There will be plenty of chocolates to taste and to buy. For entry forms call (540) 862- 4447.
