VCE hosts calving road show
BLACKSBURG - Virginia Cooperative Extension will host an educational road show for area cattle producers titled "Cleaning Up Your Calving Act."
Producers throughout the valley will have a number of opportunities to attend this program at 7 p.m. at the following locations: Tuesday, Feb, 5 at the Rockbridge County Extension conference room; Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Augusta County Government Center board room; Monday, Feb. 11 at the Rockingham County Extension conference room; and Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Highland County Extension conference room.
Area animal science extension agents will speak on a number of topics concerning herd health and management. Rockingham County Extension Agent Tracy Tomascik will speak on improving beef production through better herd management. He will address ideas for establishing an effective bull lot.
Jason Carter, Augusta County extension agent, will discuss tools for tightening the calving season.
Highland County extension agent Rodney Leech will speak on the potential for improving herd health and marketing through a defined calving season.
There is no cost for this program. However, producers are asked to call their extension office no later than noon on the day of the program to register.
