In Brief . . . Monterey Town Council ¦ Monterey property owner Ruth Ann Morrison paid her town property taxes on time this year for the first time in 11 years. Town attorney Melissa Dowd was recently able to have Morrison's government salary garnished for non-payment of taxes. Morrison's employer is sending the town a check for $302.85 for back taxes Morrison owed. "You got her attention," Dowd told council members.
¦ "Cody Ralston has been doing a nice job filling in for (town employee) Mike (Isles), while Mike is convalescing," said councilman Frances Fenn. Isles is recovering from neck surgery. Ralston has been taking care of the sewer plant and handling trash pickup for the past two weeks.
¦ Council will meet in a joint work session with county supervisors at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the courtroom at the Highland courthouse to discuss the proposed abattoir/slaughterhouse zoning change. Dowd said the county has no application for an abattoir, "so you have to think theoretically - it could be small or large - we don't know." Fenn encouraged council members to attend.
¦ Town clerk Nancy Hooke reported town decals will go on sale in March. They have to be purchased by April 15, she said.
