FFA member spotlight: Kari Obaugh By Jessie Siron, reporting for the Highland County FFA
MONTEREY - Kari Obaugh, the daughter of Kyle and Karla Obaugh of McDowell is a student at Highland High School. Obaugh is the chapter parliamentarian and has been a member of the Future Farmers of America for six years. She was asked the following questions about her FFA experience.
What makes the chapter
unique?
The Highland FFA strives for a tradition of excellence in developing students' potential for premier leadership, personal growth and most importantly career success.
What is your favorite FFA
activity and why?
Unquestionably, my favorite FFA activity is participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. It is a fun-filled night in which we honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease and raise money to help fight the horrific and horrendous disease. FFA members gather with their beautifully decorated tents and sleeping bags with the goal of keeping one person on the track at all times. It is an enjoyable and wonderful way to bring FFA members together for the sponsorship of the magnificent cause.
What have you learned through your FFA experience?
I have learned and cultured a lot about leadership and personal growth, both of which FFA helped establish through competitions, meetings, and education trips.
What has been the highlight
of your FFA career?
The highlight of my FFA career was the trilling trip to the 80th National FFA Convention. FFA members from all across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands came together for the nation's largest student gathering. I had the opportunity to hear inspiring and rousing speakers, attend awesome musical performances and focus on information packed workshops and tours. My trip to Indianapolis was unforgettable and amazing.
What are your plans after
high school?
After graduation I plan to attend the School Of Radiologic Technology at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and work in communication with James Madison University, where I hope to acquire my bachelors degree in arts and science.
What motivational quote do
you strive to live by?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
