4-H camp counselor jobs are available

WIRTZ - Applications are now being accepted for the positions of Junior 4-H Camp teen counselor and counselor-in-training. Positions are open to youth 13-18 years of age in Bath and Highland counties.

Teen counselors and CITs attending Junior 4-H Camp gain volunteer work experience by assisting extension agents and other camp staff in planning and managing camp operations. These positions will help teens develop leadership skills in decision-making, time management, counseling, teamwork and supervision of others.

Youth applying for teen counselor positions must be at least 14 years old before Jan. 1, 2008. Teens applying for CIT positions must be at least 13 years old before Jan. 1, 2008.

This year's Junior 4-H Camp is scheduled for June 30- July 4, at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Center at Smith Mountain Lake near Wirtz.

Prior membership in 4-H is not required to apply for these positions. However, applicants selected for a position will be required to enroll as a 4-H member and complete all 4-H teen leader training requirements.

Application deadlines have been extended until Friday, Feb. 22 and are due in the Bath or Highland Extension Office by 4pm. Applications or more information are available from the Bath Extension Office (540) 839-7261 or the Highland Extension Office (540) 468-2225.

If you are a person with a disability and desire assistance or accommodations to participate in 4- H activities, please contact the VCE Bath or Highland Unit Office at (540) 468-2225, (540) 839-7261 or (888) 823-1710 (TDD (800) 828-1120) during business hours to discuss accommodations.
