SeniorNavigator helps facilitate partnership with Bath

Bath County and SeniorNavigator are in partnership to address the needs of seniors and caregivers in our community. The goal of this partnership is to provide access to information on hundreds of services that help seniors keep their inde- pendence and to assist caregivers, family and friends in meeting the challenges of elder care.

SeniorNavigator recently hired Keith Gnagey, who will serve as the community specialist for the Shenandoah Valley area. Gnagey will serve as Bath's liaison with SeniorNavigator and will be instrumental in working with the county to ensure residents are aware of the partnership and have access to all of the benefits the partnership has to offer.

Through Bath County's partnership with SeniorNavigator, residents are able to use a co-branded Web site that is accessible through the county's website. Features of the website include:

¦ Access to a database of over 21,000 public and private services in Virginia

¦ Ability to search for resources

by zip code or city/county Health, legal, financial, housing, caregiver information, and much more

¦ Hundreds of informative, authoritative articles

¦ 'Ask the Expert' feature that enables users to ask questions that are answered confidentially by specialists in various disciplines

¦ 'Needs Assessment,' which is an interactive guide to finding support services tailored to individual needs.

For those of you who like to find information the good old-fashioned way, SeniorNavigator is not just online, it's in the community too. The Bath County Public Library, senior center, parks and recreation office, and the cooperative extension have all volunteered to serve as SeniorNavigator centers. These centers make it possible for everyone to locate this free health and aging information. Specifically designed for residents without a home computer or Internet access, all of the community-based centers have trained staff who use the Web site to assist seniors and caregivers in obtaining information about support services.

For more information, go to www.bathcountyva.org/ SeniorNavigator.htm, visit one the SeniorNavigator Centers listed above, or call SeniorNavigator tollfree at 1-866-393-0957. To schedule a training or presentation, contact Gnagey directly at keith@seniornavigator.org.
