Sheep workshop set
MONTEREY - Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Highland Sheep and Wool Producers Association will host an educational workshop for area sheep producers on Friday, Feb. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Highland Modular Conference Room in Monterey.
Brad Smith, Extension Agent in Grant County, W.Va., will discuss his work in sheep management as project leader with the West Virginia Small Ruminant Project. Smith will discuss this project and its intent of improving sheep production in the region. He will also address late winter feeding and nutrition. Additionally, he will speak about the project's work with out-of-season breeding and lambing as a means to improve marketing flexibility and to control predation.
Rodney Leech, extension agent for Bath and Highland, will provide information on parasite resistance in sheep and discuss what producers are experiencing locally.
