This Bear wheel alignment machine is nearing the end of its life according to Mertz automotive instructor Jeff Hicks. School superintendent Dr. David Smith asked the Planning Commission for $42,000 to replace the aging Bear. Only one more year of software upgrades is likely to be available according to Smith. Two of the wheel units (inset) were rebuilt last year. Hicks said only one company still works on the machines and Bear no longer makes parts for this machine. For many years, this was the only alignment machine in the county, said Hicks.
