Highland County Recreation Commission
¦ The recreation commission approved adding $600 to its budget request this year to pay for a weight room supervisor. Commission vice president Don Farrell, who also coaches high school golf, said he wanted to start a weight-training program for his golf team. The golf team will use the facility until the end of the school year, when the commission anticipates the Highland High School weight room will be ready for school athletes. ¦ Member Summer Cohen said she has seven paid registrations for the Aug. 2 Mountain Mama road bike challenge. ¦ Member Theresa Wagner said she is organizing a trip to the Black Friar's Playhouse in Staunton to see "The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare. The proposed excursion is for the 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5 showing. ¦ The commission went into closed session with Highland County Public School superintendent Gary Blair to discuss personnel matters including job description and performance of an employee.
