Millboro Happenings By Gina Hamilton
¦ Resident Sandra Peters, who has been a leader for the Weight Watchers program for six years, received the Diamond Leader award recently from the organization. While there are no longer Weight Watchers meetings Millboro or Goshen, she leads such programs in Clifton Forge and Covington. Peters said area residents who are interested in having a local program again should compile a list of at least 15 interested people who would participate and let her know by calling (540) 863- 5186.
¦ Elementary school principal Martha Reish sent in this note: "Millboro Elementary would like to thank all students and families that read 'The Trumpet of the Swan' and worked on activities throughout the last month. It was exciting to learn about the different animals and places, and at the same time enjoy the fictional Louis and his adventures. In classrooms and hallways all of the students could enjoy conversations about the same book. Then last week the Virginia Wildlife Center visited the school for two assemblies. The students met Gustavo the owl, Maggie the possum, and Squirt the garter snake to learn more about these animals and the environment. Again, thanks to Millboro families in sharing this book together and participating in our RIF project!"
¦ It's not too early to get in the mood for a great bluegrass event, the sixth annual Bath Bluegrass Jamboree on Saturday, March 29, at Bath County High School in Warm Springs. Posters are showing up that announce the following participating bands: The Wright Kids, High Ground, 220 South, and the Locust Mountain Boys. The popular event will be held from 6-9 p.m. with master of ceremonies Uncle Norris Long and DJ Willie Smith. It's billed as a fund-raiser for Allegheny Mountain Radio. For more details and ticket information, call (540) 839- 5400, or (877) 572-0721.
