Relay For Life holds community yard sale
HOT SPRINGS - The Bath County Chapter of the American Cancer Society has announced a new event for its annual Relay for Life - a community yard sale. Spaces can be reserved, free of charge by contacting Olivia Haney at (540) 997-9135 or Pat Foutz at (540) 838-7055. Relay organizers are asking that yard sale vendors make a contribution to the Relay for Life. The community yard sale will begin at 12 p.m.
In addition to the community yard sale, relay organizers have planned for local talent, team activities, food and fun competitions throughout the day. Of special interest is this year's theme, "Bath Of Hope - Making Cancer Extinct." Teams will use this theme to decorate their tent space. Team captains will be given a packet to inspire them into creating posters, signs, etc. to be judged throughout the day.
The signature survivor's lap will be held at two times during this year's relay. One lap will take place at 1 p.m. to open the event and another lap will take place at 6 p.m. Relay for Life is not just a fund-raiser, but a time to honor and recognize those who are living with cancer and those we have lost to cancer.
In an effort to accomplish this, the group will participate in the HERO program. This program H - honors those who have survived cancer; E - encourages those who are battling cancer; R - remembers those who have died from cancer; and O - organizes a team to walk for their heroes and others who are heroes in their own right. The team and its members have been requested to identify their HEROs. Throughout the day, time will be given to hear about these individuals and the reason people walk the relay.
Bath County's Relay for Life will be held Saturday, May 24, from noon to midnight at Millboro Elementary School in Millboro.
