The West Virginians to perform March 6
FRANKLIN W.Va. - "The West Virginians" is a nationally recognized performing group from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va. They will perform in Franklin, W.Va. in the community building on Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m.
Admission is free and voluntary donations will be accepted to offset touring expenses.
During their 30-year history, The West Virginians have given nearly 3,400 performances throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
In 1997, the group represented the American Baptist Convention USA in India and also toured mission fields in Thailand.
In addition to live performances, the group has produced several television specials, a 30 minute video and twelve full length recordings. They have also been designated official ambassadors for the state of West Virginia.
In its 31st year, The West Virginians are directed by Lauren Lindsey, assistant professor of music. Each year, the members are selected by audition on the basis of their character and multi-talented musical abilities.
The group presents a variety of sacred and secular music, appealing to all ages in a variety of settings. They have contributed to the spiritual life of hundreds of churches, while their secular performances have entertained thousands with a combination of dance, varied instrumentation and humor. They perform Christian pop, rock, country, jazz and Broadway styles and also double as a chamber choir, specializing in a capella sacred choral repertoire.
