A line of heavy thunderstorms ahead of a cold front brought heavy rains and high winds to the Highlands Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Back Creek, Bullpasture and other streams and rivers reached bank full. The Jackson River is two feet above the low water bridge in Hidden Valley early Wednesday. Tree limbs and other debris cover the bridge. The weather service reported 1.8 inches of rain Tuesday at Ingall's Field, much of it falling between 9 and 10 Tuesday night. Wind gusts reached 75.9 mph at 9:20 p.m. and the wind was still gusting as high as 70 mph Wednesday morning at 6:40 a.m. Tree limbs and branches were down all over the county. Loggers heading south from Highland reported U.S. 220 open all the way south to Hot Springs. The Bath County Sheriff's office had no reports of flooding in the roads or roads closed early Wednesday morning. (Recorder photo by Charles Garratt)
