Millboro Happenings By Gina Hamilton
¦ It must be getting close to spring since Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m., when clocks need to be set forward one hour. Does anyone really stay up until 2 a.m. to set the clocks? It should not be called 'savings' time, though, according to webexhibits.org. And spring officially begins on Thursday, March 20. Mother Nature must be planning ahead for that, as peepers have been reported up Monterey way and a robin was spotted in Millboro on Tuesday. Spring break follows for Millboro Elementary School students, and for students at all Bath County Schools, from March 21-25.
¦ Douthat State Park will host Easter activities on Saturday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Center, with craft projects and an Easter egg hunt for youngsters. For more details, call (540) 862-8100, or e-mail Douthat@dcr.virginia.gov. The event is free.
¦ Efforts are under way to start a farmers' market in or near Millboro. Organizers are looking for local vendors who would like to participate weekly from June to September with their home-grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, and even bedding plants. If you are interested, let them know by e-mail at millborofarmersmarket@yahoo.com, call Harmony Leonard at (540) 997-0239, or after 5 p.m., Donna Campagna, (540) 997-0098.

 | | The Millboro Ruritan Club has supported the Windy Cove Food Pantry for at least the past 12 years and continued that support with a recent check presentation made by club president Tom Duquette to Bea Clark for the food pantry. Clark, and Vickie Moran of the Craigsville-Goshen Food Pantry, which also received a donation, were guests at the club meeting on Feb. 11. (Photo courtesy the Ruritan Club) |
