| MONTEREY - Still have a few extra pounds left from the holidays? Stiff from being holed up during the winter? Want to feel better naturally? Good news! Monterey's newest business, Sun, Fun, and Fitness, is open to revitalize that bag of bones the healthy way.
Located in the Highland self-storage complex, Sun, Fun, and Fitness offers patrons a bright, airy, new, and spacious place to exercise as well as massage therapy and chiropractor services.
The workout area is a semi-separate space fillled with machines that include a full line of Vision workout equipment with cardio and strength sections, free weights, exercise bikes, treadmills, and stepclimbers for full service fitness training.

| A large television hangs on the wall in the cardio room and plants are interspersed to aid in the healthy feel of the place. Lockers and showers complete the package for Highland's first real gym.
Misty Puffenbarger said she bought the building, saw the need for a fitness center, and filled it. "The benefits (of exercise) include more than weight control and increased muscle tone," she said, adding that people feel better afterward, have increased energy, and keep their flexibility if they maintain an active life-style.
The fitness area takes up the majority of the space and maximum capacity is between 30-40 people working out at a given time. A comfortable and immaculate place to work out, Sun, Fun, and Fitness is more than a gym.
In one of two private wings of the 2000 square foot area Misty's sister, massage therapist Nicole Puffenbarger, offers a variety of massages including deep tissue, hot stone, and the traditional Swedish massage.
In conjunction with the overall mission of the business, massage therapy helps people feel better naturally. The touted benefits of massage include reduced muscle tension and stress. Blood circulation, joint flexibility, and the immune system are improved with regular visits. Massages are available to everyone by appointment.
On the other wing, chiropractor Dr. Andrea Hailey offers office hours on Tuesday (10-6) to add another option for maintaining a healthy body.
Hailey operates an office in Verona and appointments are recommended for her weekly visit to Monterey. She said that a visit to her office "helps with a lot of problems people think they just have to deal with," including head- aches, carpel tunnel syndrome, and foot pain.
"We tend to get pigeonholed as low-back doctors," she said.
Membership to Sun, Fun, and Fitness is available at individual, multiple, or group rates. Plans range from yearly, to quarterly, monthly, or daily. All members are given an orientation to the equipment by a trainer and staff is on premise for additional assistance. A tanning bed will be added soon and the will and room to expand exists.
Due to high enrollment gym hours have already been expanded. They are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - 3-9 p.m; Tuesday and Thursday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To join the gym, set up an appointment, or for more information call 468-2786 (GOT-2RUN).
