MONTEREY - Highland County 4-H members competed at the local 4-H contest day held Saturday, March 1. Contestants competed in nine contest categories and three age divisions.

Highland High School teacher Terry Duff assisted extension staff with judging. Serving as the masters of ceremonies were 4-H county council officers Kari Obaugh, Kate Obaugh and David Leech. Dorothy Stephenson of Sundance Studio assisted with contest setup and musical coordination.

Most contestants put a great amount of creativity and preparation into their presentations and performances. Many were noteworthy and earned top honors.

Among some of the favorites were: Grace Blanchard of the In School 4-H Club, who presented an upscale San Francisco-themed table setting she developed based on her recent family trip to the city; Rachel Malcolm of Busy Bee 4-H Club provided both a presentation on the Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir and a vocal performance of "All Things Bright and Beautiful," which she also performed in sign language; and members from the 4-H Livestock Judging Team, with Amanda Blagg on violin, Laurel Blagg on clarinet and David Leech on gui- tar, teamed up as a trio to play the popular big band favorite "In The Mood."
