Highland YEP gears up for 2008 summer
MONTEREY - Are you a student, between the ages of 14 and 18, looking for a summer job? Do you know any one that fitsthat description? Does your community organization need to have any work done? Are you willing to donate to a program that benefits area youth with job skills training?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, think about the Youth Employment Program. YEP will, once again, be offering our students an opportunity to participate in a job skills training program, that will help prepare them for life after school.
Our students interact with the business community and civic organizations on a day-to-day basis, expanding their horizons, and offering new opportunities. They learn team skills, and how to work independently.
We are looking for businesses and organizations willing to provide a jobsite placement with supervision. We will, also, have a community services crew to complete projects around the county. If your organization has an appropriate project this crew can work on, please contact The Highland Center.
The YEP program has suffered severe federal budget cuts, and we are seeking businesses and individuals to donate to the program, so that we do not have to turn any deserving students away. Our students grow immeasurably through work experience, training and the mentoring provided throughout the year.
For more information about the Youth Employment Program, please contact The Highland Center at (540) 468-1922 or highlandcenter@ htcnet.org.
