Designer Solutions offers floor to ceiling beauty
By Margo Oxendine • Staff Writer

Chezley Kincaid and Miranda Shotwell hold interior design degrees, and both attended Radford University, although they did not become acquainted there. Shotwell owns Designer Solutions, a full-service interior design company, at Smith Mountain Lake. A second shop, just opened on Cottage Row at The Homestead, will be managed by Kincaid, who grew up in Bath County.
HOT SPRINGS - The time is right. The location is perfect. A need is filled.

What more could a shop owner ask?

Miranda Shotwell is delighted. Her new showroom, Designer Solutions, is open for business on Cottage Row at The Homestead. It offers "everything from floor to ceiling" for the well-apppointed home.

Bath County's own Chezley Kincaid manages the shop. The daughter of Dennis and Debbie Kincaid, Chezley attended Radford University for two years, and then transferred to the prestigious Art Institute of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in interior design. She gained experience at Shotwell's flagship Designer Solutions shop at Smith Mountain Lake, which opened in 2003.

Sample books cut A vast array of sample books await clients at Designer Solutions, a new full-service shop on Cottage Row in Hot Springs.
Ironically, the two young women did not meet at Radford, where Shotwell earned her interior design degree. Regardless of that, they are the perfect pairing of desire, drive and design.

"Since Chezley is from here, the idea of a shop in Hot Springs that she could manage just seemed perfect," Shotwell said this week, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Bath County Chamber of Commerce.

The showroom is tastefully laid out, and loaded with all sorts of designer fabrics, wall coverings, artwork, furnishings, rugs, carpets, tiles and specialty accessories.

The back officeshelves are stacked with bound sample books of fabrics, wallpaper and other materials. Clients may also select and order light fixtures, cabinetry, and furniture. The designers can help with color analysis, furniture selection and placement, even home staging for real estate purposes.

"Our home staging option has proven profitableto many homeowners and realtors in the Smith Mountain Lake and Roanoke areas," Shotwell notes. Until now, this option has not been available locally.

Now, Bath homeowners need drive no further than Hot Springs to select ceramic, porcelain, slate and glass tile; vinyl, laminate or hardwood flooring; carpet, area rugs, and rug bindings. Custom window treatments can be designed and ordered, as well as custom bedspreads and bedskirts. "Our product and material options are endless," says Shotwell.

Designer Solutions also provides a selection of hostess, birthday and other gifts, including a variety of candles, and the Lolita line of specialty hand-painted glassware.

Professional consultations are available in the shop, in your home, even by phone, at 839-8700. For a quick looksee at home, visit the website: www. designersolutionsinc. com. The shop is open from 9-5 Mondays through Saturdays, and from 10-3 on Sundays. Kincaid notes that client appointments are available at any time.

"I think Chezley really wishes there were an extra day or two in the week," Shotwell laughs.
