Discovery Channel filming in Bath, helicopter used to cluster bomb
BATH COUNTY -
A crew from the Discovery Channel has been in the area for a week to film part of a program on ways to save the planet.
According to Jean Clark at the Lexington-Rockbridge Area Tourism Center, the portion of the program being filmed here is focused on reclaiming deforested areas. Clark had limited information, but she noted scientists were meeting an engineer and a physicist in a large forested area. A helicopter was being used to cluster bomb the apparently private location with special biodegradable canisters which effectively plant seeds and encourage plant growth, a faster and more efficient method than traditional replanting.
The group requested an ambulance from the Millboro Area Res- cue Squad to remain on the site in case it was needed, according to Andy Seabolt, the emergency operations coordinator for Bath County. He did not have other information about the project, and neither did the Bath County Chamber of Commerce.
The film crew was in the region from April 1 to 8.
