Millboro Happenings

n A fund-raiser is continuing at Millboro Elementary School as students try to collect $900 worth of quarters for the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life in Bath County, which will be held on Saturday, May 24, at the school. Donations for Quarters for a Cure can be made by contacting any student or leaving quarters at the school office.And residents who want to participate in the relay can contact chairman Olivia Haney by calling (540) 997-9135. The Bath County goal for 2008 is to raise $31,750.

n Students at the elementary school are also busy with a second fund-raiser, St. Jude's Bike-a-thon, which will culminate with the ride-in this Saturday, April 26, from 9-11:30 a.m., at the school on Church Street. Participants are collecting donations at this time and will continue to do so through April 26. For more information, contact Sharon Madison at (540) 997-5073.

n A Wool Fair is being held in Churchville this Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flyers posted around town note the event will be held at Cestari Sheep & Land Co., LLC, at 2581Churchville Avenue (U.S. 250), with free admission and parking. n The Millboro Volunteer Fire Association will hold its longawaited open house to showcase the new addition on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 1 p.m. Those who stop by to tour the facility will be treated to free hot dogs, popcorn and beverages.

n Resident Tammy Vess has expressed her thanks for the community support she is receiving, most recently with a 50-50 raffle,as she continues to deal with medical treatments, cancer last year and now leukemia. The Millboro Ruritan Club will hold a blood drive on Wednesday, May 14, from noon to 6 p.m., at the club building in honor of Vess, who still faces a bone marrow transplant. The club has a goal of collecting 30 pints. Anyone who wants to sign up to donate at a specific time that day can call Connie Duquette at (540) 997-1061 for an appointment.
